Procedure to Obtain Indian Visa Online:

Foreign Tourists must have a six months valid passport with two blank pages before applying for an Indian electronic visa. Foreigners must have valid pre-booked journey tickets and sufficient funds to support their stay in India. However, if you want to travel to India within 4 days, then you can apply for urgent processing of your Indian visa application. There is a small additional fee of applying for an emergency visa to India apart from the basic e-visa fees.

The e-Tourist visa for one month permits a traveler to stay for a duration of 30 days with a single entry, whereas, e-Tourist visa for 1 year and 5 years grants you a stay and travel for 365 days with multiple entries depending on your Nationality and certain other factors. Through an e-Business visa, you can stay in India for a period of 365 days with multiple entries permitted. The e-Medical visa allows a visitor to stay for a period of 60 days with 3 permitted entries.

Documentation Required for e-Visa Application:

Earlier, Indian visa requirements for an applicant were really massive. Apparently, e-visa has made the process very convenient and simple.

After carefully filling up the application form, the applicant needs to upload all the required documents online according to the type of visa applied. You can find a detailed list of the mandatory documents below:

e-Tourist Visa:

  • Scanned copy of information page of the passport displaying the photograph and details completely
  • If visiting for any short term course, scanned copy of the letter from the concerned institute/ college on its letterhead
  • Scanned copy of the letter from the concerned organization if traveling for short duration voluntary work

e-Business Visa:

  • Scanned copy of information page of the passport displaying the photograph and details completely
  • Scanned copy of business visiting card
  • Any letter describing the invitation from any Indian parties with which you are expecting to conduct the business (optional)

e-Medical Visa:

  • Scanned copy of information page of the passport displaying the photograph and details completely
  • Scanned copy of the letter from the concerned Indian hospital on its letterhead including the date of admission suggested by the doctor.

e-Medical Attendant Visa:

  • Scanned copy of information page of the passport displaying the photograph and details completely

e-Conference Visa:

  • Scanned copy of information page of the passport displaying the photograph and details completely
  • Scanned copy of Invitation from the organizer of the event
  • Scanned copy of the document granting political clearance from the Ministry of External Affairs
  • Clearance of event from the Ministry of Home Affairs

Along with these documents, the applicant needs to upload a colored photograph that fulfills all the following requirements:

  • The format of the photograph must be jpeg
  • The minimum size of the photograph should be 10 KB and not more than 1 MB
  • The width and height of the photograph must be equal
  • The photograph must show a full face, front view and open eyes
  • Photo with spectacles is strictly prohibited
  • Head should be in the proper center if the frame and represent full head from hair top to chin.
  • Background must be white-colored or plain light-colored
  • No shadows should be there in the photo
  • The photograph must be without borders

A scanned copy of the information page of the passport displaying the photograph and details must be uploaded in PDF format. The size of the document should be between 10 KB to 300 KB. Other required documents to be uploaded for business/ medical purposes should also be in PDF format. The size limit of the documents is 10 KB to not exceeding 300 KB.

All the above documents whether business cards or invitation letters must be written in the English language. Documents uploaded in any other language would be liable for rejection.

Indian Destination Ports that accept e-Visas:

There are total 28 international airports in India that accept the entry through e-Visa India and those are:

Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bagdogra, Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Calicut, Chennai, Kochi, Coimbatore, Delhi, Chandigarh, Goa, Mumbai, Gaya, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mangalore, Port Blair, Pune, Tiruchirapalli, Trivandrum, Varanasi, Nagpur and Visakhapatnam.

In addition to the international airports, there are 5 following seaports as well where Indian e-visa entries are accepted:

Kochi, Goa, Mangalore, Mumbai and Chennai.

Indian Government has also arranged separate help desks and immigration counters to assist Medical tourists at the following airports:

Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

After your arrival through e-Visa, you can return to your country through any immigration point of India.

The applicant has to carry the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) which is granted by the Indian Government along with him/ her at the time of arrival in India.

The biometric details (scanned fingerprints) of the e-visa applicant will be captured at the destination port in India on arrival.

It is not possible to extend an e-Visa and it is also non-convertible. The applicant is not allowed to visit any restricted/ protected and cantonment areas without any prior information from the designated authority.

Fees for India e-Visa:

The India e-Visa is country-specific, it depends on the friendly relations between India and the other country. The citizens of the following countries can get free Indian e-Visa:

Argentina, Cook Islands, Fiji, Jamaica, Indonesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Micronesia, Myanmar, Nauru, Niue Island, Papua New Guinea, Seychelles, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Palau, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Uruguay and Vanuatu.

For e-Tourist visa, the applicants from all the other countries except Japan has to pay the same amount of fees as follows:

  • One-month applicable fees as of April to June is $10
  • One-month applicable fees for the remainder of the year is $25
  • One-year applicable fees are $40
  • Five-year applicable fees are $80

Citizens of Japan have to pay $25 only for one year and five years of Indian Visa fees simultaneously.

Following is the fees for the other Indian e-Visas:

  • $100 for the citizens of the USA, UK, Russia, Mozambique and Ukraine.
  • $80 for the citizens of Australia, Canada, China, Brazil, Belgium, Hong Kong, France, Germany, Ireland, Jordan, Kenya, Finland, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Hungary, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam and Israel.
  • $25 for the citizens of Singapore, Japan and Sri Lanka.

An additional small amount of 2.5% on applicable e-Visa fees will be charged as bank transaction charges. The applicant must pay the fees at least 4 days before the expected date of arrival or the application will not be processed further.
